What is a Mini Split Ductless HVAC System?
Mini split ductless HVAC systems consist of an outdoor unit – containing the compressor, condenser or heat pump – and an indoor air handler, which distributes the air throughout the room. Temperature is controlled with a remote or smartphone app, and, depending on the brand and model you choose, features may include programmable timers, variable fan speeds and more.
The size and number of rooms will determine the size of the mini split ductless HVAC system you need. Each room you want to cool or heat, will require its own indoor air handler. These indoor air handlers are typically mounted to a wall, and can be placed just about anywhere due to their compact size. The indoor units are then connected to the outdoor unit with small, unobtrusive refrigerant tubing and electrical wiring.
Benefits of Mini Split Ductless HVAC Systems
Mini split systems offer many benefits over traditional HVAC systems, including energy efficiency, compact size, quiet operation and ease of installation.
- Energy Efficient - Mini split systems deliver air only where you need it, and the multistage inverter technology and lack of ductwork means less energy wasted.
- Size - Mini split systems are much smaller than traditional HVAC systems and less obtrusive than window air conditioners and space heaters.
- Quiet - The indoor air handlers in a mini split system are extremely quiet. In fact, you may not even notice when they are running.
- Easy-to-Install - A mini split system can be up and running in your home quickly without the time-consuming and messy process of ductwork installation.
